Clinical Profile and Treatment Outcome of Patients with Trigeminal Neuralgia: A Retrospective study in a Tertiary Hospital of Eastern Nepal

Introduction: Neuropathic orofacial pain is common non-dontogenic pain. Diagnosis relies primarily on history taking with less of pathologic change visible. Trigeminal neuralgia (TGN) a neuropathic affecting the maxillofacial region fifth cranial nerve (V). Objective: To assess clinical characteristics, effective therapeutic regimen, side effect, radiographic and laboratory investigation inTrigeminal patients. Methods: Retrospective study included all patients visiting department records from 2014 to 2021. After ethical approval forstudy, eighty were diagnosed based ICHD3 criteria. Patient atypical feature sensory deficit underwent CT OR MRI rule mass or lesion along cerebello-pontine angle recess other organic cause. The data analysed using SPSS version 11.5 Microsoft Excel 2017. Results: A total 80 retrieved. affected right 46 (57.5%) followed by left 28 (35%), bilateral four(5%) anterior two (2.5%). most branch involved was mandibular maxillary combination. Management done carbamazepine (CBZ) in Common effects drowsiness, dizziness, nausea diplopia. scan showed space occupying three cases. Refractory cases neurolysis symptomatic few classical TGN sent for surgical management. Conclusions: characteristic due high cost unavailability imaging testing. Treatment single multiple drugs adjunct therapy.
